For once, I’d like to dress as the river Meuse. And by that, I don’t mean wearing a nice, layered outfit with many blues that evokes associations with streams and dragonflies, something flowy. Not that.
I want it so that people I encounter are truly confused. That they see a flowing entity before them. A being of nature. A hybrid of water and human. I want it to only become clear on second glance that I am somewhere in there, amidst all that water. Among living fish and seaweed.
To arrive at such a form, I might need to contact Uyra Sodoma in Brazil. Uyra is Indígena em contexto de diáspora, trans e ativista de Direitos Humanos (Indigenous person in diaspora context, transgender and human rights activist), and she understands something I cannot quite grasp yet. Uyra truly knows how to merge elements from nature. By that I don’t mean she’s knows how to camouflage well, no. With Uyra one simultaneously sees human and rainforest. They exist together. Uyra, I would ask, Uyra how to loosen my human form a bit so things can flow?
Every day, truly always, someone waits by the river Meuse. The Maaswachter in question resides in a Meuse Watcher’s house. The watchers carry Maaswacht, a project by SoAP, TAAT, and the Meuse. Want to join? Send an email to maaswacht@gmail.com.
