A woman visited the Munzur, the vast mountain region in eastern Turkey. She didn’t speak the language, and the people there didn’t know a word of hers. You’d think this would be an obstacle of the most practical kind. Yet that’s not what she brought home:
Communication was never this good, she says. Never before have I looked at another person so intently, gestured so expressively with my hands.
Until September 13, Huseyin Umaysiz is working in the Munzur region on a research project about the river that shares its name. Together with the water, he writes a text for an audience living in the river basin. He also walks along the banks with film director Özkan Küçük and a visual artist, exploring how they might collaborate.
