Maaswacht June

June, the season of shimmering water. Light leaps and bounces off molecules; the water sparkles, glistens, flickers, and gleams. From oceans to rivers, from ponds to ditches: bodies of water lie like mirrors, signaling to us: come.swim.stop.

After a long day of swimming, reading and stoking the fire, as the sun sets, a glitter path appears on the water. That glint trail, route of sparkes, is the streak of light that stretches across the water as the sun dips. A shimmer from shore to sun, from observer to source.

This month, as spring gives way to summer, someone waits by the Meuse every day as part of Maaswacht, a collaboration between SoAP, TAAT, and the river MAAS. Want to become a Meuse watcher? Sign up at maaswacht@gmail.com.
