It started with Paulien wanting to go to Lourdes but not being able to due to circumstances. Covid was rampant, it was a strange time. No. It started earlier. It started with Paulien’s beloved one going into a psychosis.
It began when you lit a candle and said I shouldn’t disturb you because you were going to do something. And… the next evening, the same again. It happened more and more… The candles kept multiplying. And the hours I was not supposed to disturb you grew longer.
It began with loss and took the form of a film. One in which the viewer, alongside Paulien, stares at human movements in a static setting. A man clips plants, a nun takes photos with her phone. And casually, Paulien says rather significant things to her lost friend.
Lourdes TV will be shown this month in Amsterdam. On March 5 at 19.00, the film will be screened in a room at the Rijksacademie, called Rijksacademie Schip.
