People say every person has a doppelgänger, at least one. This other person doesn’t share your DNA, but by chance, the two of you look alike.
Answering the human yearning to meet oneself in real life, websites (business models) offer the chance to make this happen. One uploads a photo—looking straight into the lens. An algorithm then, with clumsy digital fingers, scours a database and pairs them with their match.
One then would board a plane to meet them. Both would put on the same outfit, style hairs in a similar manner, paint lips in coral red, and take a photo that goes back into the database.
Rita Bifulco and Charlotte Gillain aren’t looking for more of the same. They seek difference. A clash or weaving of ideas. Pollination. Tearing. Fertilizing. Above all: not a repetition of what already exists. Therefore, from July 20 to August 2, Mime Fabriek and Boogiebosgive way to Fuck Around and Find Out, a residency for two artists with the goal of challenging each other. The first part, from July 20 to 24, takes place in the surroundings of Boogiebos, Belgium; the second will happen in Amsterdam.
