Blue is an agreement October

Light turning blue, shadows becoming white: cyanotype is a hobby like no other. It’s about making photographs with your hands, and involves keeping no distance whatsoever from the object to be documented.

The pine cone, the button, the watch strap—one lays them on top of the paper that will soon become the photograph. Then comes the waiting (an hour) while the sun works, or the light beams from a bright desk lamp. Then it appears: the photograph. The photogram. The image of light. The blue and the white. Vinny Jones’ Blue is an Agreement is on view this month at the Gwangju Biennale, in South Korea. This light-reflective work remains there until November 15.
