between body and world november

In the movement session, participants explore the body as an archive — uncovering hidden memories and transforming them into expression.

How can you find what history your body carries within it? The experiences lived by others before you. Can memories pass from one body to another?
Do they appear as we grow older, or fade over time?

Is inherited history stored in an instinctive alertness. In a certain walk, passed down from a father who learned it from his mother, who learned it from her grandmother? From the one ancestor who brought that gait into the family after a bad fall.

Does it live in a natural talent for swimming, or a fear of water?
In cramps, contortions, a tilted back?
In a tendency to take the first step with the left foot?
In standing tall, or in agility — the ability to spring up in an instant?
In a quickness of the feet?
Or is it stored in our brains — do histories rise up in dreams?
Do they sit in our tongues, on our vocal cords, in our language?

On November 5, from 2:30 PM to 4 PM, Robert Ssempijja gives a masterclass in collaboration with euro-scene Leipzig. During Between Body and World you are invited to move your body. In the second half of the session, he will tell about his work.
