Every now and then (not often), the moon pulls at the water with such force, such extraordinary persistence and intensity, that it can make a river roll open, toward the bank. The water gets unfolded and pushed aside, like a warm duvet in the morning.
The water recedes, and for a moment we see the riverbed: the silt, the mud, its confused creatures and soft plants. As soon as the water returns, they will resume their aquatic lives, they will sway and wave again in the Szenne.
On September 13, at 2:00 PM, such a moon-pull moment will occur. The Szenne reveals itself. Natural Contract Lab invites you to Tidal Confluence, for a communal picnic, storytelling, and singing for the river.
The Szenne, by the way, is not easy to find on a map. The Szenne is a river flowing through Belgium. The Walloons call it La Senne, the Flemish say Zenne. Natural Contract Lab layers these names.
During a previous series of walks along the Szenne, the river and the walkers of Natural Contract Lab built a bond. By now, the entire river basin has been walked, and the group wonders: what could be a fulfilling next step? How does one deepen a connection with a river? Maybe, the Lab ponders, it’s time for new stories: river myths, to tell and retell. Yes, let’s start there. A first step to strengthen the bond with the Szenne will be taken on September 26, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The walk starts in Weerde. From there, you can join in walking and reflecting during WALKING-WITH – gestures of Re-emergence.
